New brochure for travellers
A new brochure entitled ‘Travel Safely in Australia’ is to be distributed nationally.
The brochure features a detailed, large-scale map showing major tourist destinations and transport routes around Australia and includes information about journey distances and travel times.
Key safety messages focus on situations that may be unusual for international visitors, such as driving on the left side of the road or travelling long distances between destinations under unfamiliar conditions.
“International visitors are advised about the importance of planning their trip, getting to know the road rules, avoiding fatigue, preventing sunburn and exercising caution when experiencing our unique surroundings and wildlife,” Federal Minister for Local Government, Territories and Roads, Jim Lloyd, said.
Tourism Minister Fran Bailey said the brochure contained translations of the messages in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Korean languages and aimed to ensure tourists had a safe and enjoyable tourism experience in Australia.
The brochure will be distributed both electronically and in hard copy to outlets including travel agencies, tourism organisations, accommodation providers, vehicle hire companies, airports, airlines, universities, driver registration and licensing centres and government shopfronts.
Production of the brochure is the result of a collaborative effort among state and territory road safety and tourism agencies, the Australian Government Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, Tourism Australia and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau
