New deadly threat to Bangkok

Friday, 4 November 20113 min read

Bangkok residents are facing another threat – this time from 15 deadly green mamba snakes that escaped from a flooded home.

Residents have been warned off trying to capture the snakes because the serum for their venom is not available in Thailand.

Floodwater has also inundated large parts of Bangkok’s Safari World, putting animals at the open zoo in danger.

“Our priority is to control the floodwater in our complex and protect more than 1,000 wild animals, including deer, antelopes, zebras and buffaloes, as well as 60,000 fish and more than 10,000 birds,” said a Safari Park spokesman.

“Our key focus has been to save high-value and rare animals, such as 120 giraffes and more than 20 belugas and dolphins,” he said.
