About FTTSA:
Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) is a non-profit marketing organisation working under the auspices of IUCN (the World Conservation Union) South Africa, which is working to establish equitable and transparent business practices in South African tourism.

FTTSA promotes six core principles (fair share; democracy; respect for human rights, culture and environment; reliability; transparency; and sustainability) and by awarding a special trademark to tourism businesses that are able to demonstrate their compliance to these principles and related criteria.

This trademark, which was officially launched in Pretoria in June 2002, rewards good practice by the tourism ‘mainstream’ while simultaneously opening up access to markets for structurally disadvantaged enterprises that are able to demonstrate a commitment fair trade in tourism.

The FTTSA trademark programme is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) through the Business Linkages Challenge Fund (BLCF). FTTSA expects to begin awarding the trademark to qualifying businesses from early 2003. For more information go to: www.fairtourismsa.org.za or email Information supplied by Travel News Now
