New iPhone app lets you bid for hotel rooms
NEW YORK – Bargain hunting iPhone owners can add a new weapon to their growing arsenal of travel applications: Priceline.com’s just-released Hotel Negotiator app, which for the first time lets name-your-own-price users bid for and book hotel rooms on the go.
The free app, which works worldwide, lets iPhone and iPod touch users search for hotels by typing a city name, choosing from a drop-down list of 50 top U.S. destinations, or shaking the device to establish their current location.
The app displays the most recent average winning bid (less taxes and fees) booked within the last three weeks for up to four available star levels in different neighbourhoods.
Users then click on a chosen star level and neighbourhood, name a price using a screen slider, enter a credit card on a one-page checkout screen, and get bid results instantly.
A separate “browse” button shows published rates for hotels, which can be sorted by star level, price, proximity and popularity.
Hotels, which include customer reviews, photos and zoomable maps, can be booked online or by tapping to call Priceline.com.
