New P&O Cruises boss to take figurehead role

Monday, 27 July 20093 min read

New P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow has pledged to become the public face of the company.

Marlow, moved to the role from Cunard Line where she was president, replaced Nigel Esdale as boss of P&O Cruises as part of a wide-ranging top management reshuffle at parent company Carnival UK (see previous TravelMole story).

Esdale took the top commercial role across Carnival UK in the changes which saw former chief commercial officer Peter Shanks succeed Marlow as head of Cunard.
She told TravelMole she intended to take a high profile both to staff and passengers.
“I really aim to be the figurehead of the company. I want to be visible on the ships to the officers and crew because it is important that they know we are all working together,” Marlow said.
She plans to sail on all six ships in the fleet in the first couple of months of her time at the helm of the company.
Marlow also said she intends to become well known to P&O passengers and take on board their feedback as the line develops.
“There’s a job to be done to take things forward. There are lots of opportunities and I think I can make a contribution,” she said.
