New residential cruise line Crescent Seas has secured a second cruise ship just weeks after first announcing its startup plans.
Crescent Seas is touting a residential cruise concept, offering luxury condos at sea for sale.
It is run by Russell Galbut, a former Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings chairman.
Just last month he secured a deal for NCLH owned Seven Seas Navigator to transform it into a residential cruise ship with a tentative launch in 2026.
Galbut has gone back to his old firm and agreed a deal to take over Oceania Cruises’ Insignia, which will also be converted to a residential ship starting in 2027.
NCLH will retain ownership of Insignia.
Crescent Seas has ambitious plans for the project, with an initial fleet of four ships including one possible newbuild.
Insignia was originally constructed in 1998 for Renaissance Cruises.
It will undergo a $50 million refurbishment to turn its existing 333 staterooms into 290 condos for sale.
They would range in price from $650,000 to up to $10 million.
Marisa Galbut, president of Crescent Seas said of the residential cruise concept: “With our ownership model, forget about the hassle of planning vacations—embrace the freedom of remote work while exploring the world.”
Insignia’s inaugural voyage is scheduled for late 2027.
