New SIA in-flight service revealed
Singapore Airlines has taken the wraps off a $360 million revamp of its new cabins across three classes.
New first, business and economy class seats, an enhanced entertainment system and new in-flight service will appear for the first time on new Boeing 777-300ERs from December.
The first route to see the new aircraft will be Singapore-Paris, followed by Zurich.
SIA has 19 of the long range aircraft on order, with 10 due to enter service by the middle of 2007.
A variation of the new in-flight service will also feature on Airbus A380s.
The new first class seat will be 35-inches wide and have a 71-inch pitch, convertible into a flat bed. The business class lie-flat seat is 30 inches wide, giving a claimed 50% more width than rival airlines. The business class seat pitch is 51 inches.
Business class will be configured with a four abreast 1-2-1 configuration, giving all passengers aisle access.
The economy class seats are claimed to offer more personal space and legroom with a 32-inch seat pitch. Each seat features a 10.6-inch monitor to access in-flight entertainment, with USB points also available.
The airline’s new KrisWorld entertainment system will offer more than 1,000 on-demand options including TV programmes, interactive games, CDs plus a range of office tools such as Word, spread sheet and presentation processing, powered by Sun Microsystems’ StarOffice Productivity Suite.
