United States: System could go nationwide after three-month trial
Passengers travelling through the United States could soon be graded according to the security risk they pose, following the launch of a new computer system.
According to The Times, US Congress has ordered the development of a system that will gather information on travellers, including credit details, bank account activity, and a check against government “wanted” lists.
The system could be in place across the whole country, after Delta Air Lines confirmed that it is to go ahead with tests of the system at three secret airports.
While there are clear benefits to such as scheme, criticism has already been voiced by campaign groups, with some worried that the government has not yet confirmed exactly how much information will be gathered by the system.
They have also pointed out the potential for mistakes and say the system could easily lead to innocent people being targeted.
