New Zealand to reopen borders to travellers in 2022
New Zealand has finally set out plans for reopening its borders to international travellers.
Fully vaccinated visitors may enter from 30 April, but will have to self-isolate for seven days upon arrival.
Before that, Australia-based Kiwis will be able to return home quarantine-free in January.
Fully vaccinated residents from most other countries will then be allowed in from 13 February.
"A phased approach to reconnecting with the world is the safest approach to ensure risk is carefully managed," Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said.
"This reduces any potential impacts on vulnerable communities and the New Zealand health system."
The new rules mean travellers can skip a stay at a state quarantine facilities.
A pre-departure test and a second test upon arrival are required as well as proof of vaccination.
New Zealand’s border restrictions have been in place for more than 18 months and have been among the strictest in the world.
It has recorded more than 10,600 cases and just 40 deaths.
