Newark airline staff plead guilty to bribery
Three airline employees have pleaded guilty to a bribery scheme at Newark Airport.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office say Alok Saksena, 45, Anthony Rosalli, 44, and Lovella Rogan, 48, conspired to award contracts for work for the airline in exchange for payments in kind.
It amounted to more than $1 million.
The three employees’ jobs gave them influence over which companies would be awarded certain contracts at the airport.
Rosalli, Saksena and Rogan allegedly conspired to award a maintenance and construction contract for kickbacks.
“In September 2021, the maintenance and construction company bid on a contract to renovate restrooms at Newark Airport. The defendants sat on the selection committee and each of them voted to award the contract to the company.”
“In exchange for the defendants’ help, the company agreed to pay for significant renovations at the defendants’ personal residences.”
“The company gave the defendants valuable items, including electronics and jewelry,” court documents allege.
“The defendants also conspired with an employee of the maintenance and construction company to fraudulently inflate change orders,” prosecutors added.
The three face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
They are set to be sentenced in April.
