Newspaper claims BA boycott is imminent
The national newspapers are starting to take an interest in the dispute between British Airways and agents over commission.
According to a report in today’s Daily Express agents are “ready to boycott BA sales” over the plans to move to 1% commission from December 1.
The Daily Express article quotes ABTA’s Sean Tipton as saying: “There has been a steady degradation of the payments to travel agents during the past three years and it is incredibly short-sighted.
“As an industry we have always tried to support our national carrier and we expect similar support from it. Agents won’t go out of their way to sell BA tickets if they can give customers an equivalent ticket with some other airline.”
Mr Tipton told News From Abroad this morning: “I am quite happy with the way the newspaper has quoted me but I clearly did not say that agents were ‘ready to boycott BA’.”
