First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has reminded Scots considering booking a summer trip overseas to think again.
Quarantine restrictions could be reintroduced for people returning from other countries in addition to Spain at quite short-notice, Sturgeon said.
"As cases fall in Scotland we must guard against the risk of more coming into the country – people planning overseas holidays need to be aware of that. You cannot assume that the rules and regulations applying when you book a holiday will be the same when you go or when you come to travel home," she said in a public address.
The First Minister also touted staycations in Scotland as the safest option.
"My advice remains to be very cautious about non-essential foreign travel at this time. The safest way to take a holiday is to stay here in Scotland."
Speaking to STV News, she cited Spain as an example of how quickly things can change.
Travel plans for many have been thrown into chaos after the FCO’s travel advisory against non-essential Spain travel was extended to the Balearic and Canary Islands.
"We’re dealing with a situation which is inherently uncertain and unpredictable right now. When we added Spain to the exempt list and made that announcement about a week ago, the days that followed I was at pains to tell people that it was not set in stone for any country."
