Non stop Gatwick to Jakarta flight

Monday, 4 February 20133 min read

Garuda is to reintroduce non-stop flights from Jakarta to Gatwick in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Gatwick’s chief executive Stewart Wingate said: "Despite being a crucial high growth business market for the UK, Indonesia has been underserved with no direct routes to the region from the UK – until now."

The UK route will complement the existing service linking Jakarta with Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam.

In December Garuda Indonesia opened new routes to Europe and the Middle East, following a code-share agreement with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways.

Garuda recently moved its international hub from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

In addition to the new London Gatwick route, the carrier will also open two more international routes this year linking Jakarta to Auckland and Brisbane.

The European Union removed a flight ban on Garuda Indonesia and three other Indonesian carriers in 2010. The airlines had been blacklisted over safety concerns.
