Norfolk Adds Flights to Meet Demand Spike
A surge in demand for Norfolk Island holidays has prompted the island to add extra Sunday flights from Sydney and Brisbane from March 5, complimenting existing Saturday and Wednesday departures.
“The island is back in the news for all the right reasons this time and the phones have been ringing hot since the second week of January,” said Norfolk Island Tourism General Manager Steve McInnes.
“The two extra services will not only give us much-needed capacity but allow more flexible packages to be put into the marketplace, with Sunday to Wednesday stopovers providing a great short-break option.”
Mr McInnes said publicity about the island’s 150th anniversary celebrations of the arrival of the descendants of the Bounty mutineers from Pitcairn Island in 1856 plus advertising campaigns on the Australian East Coast appeared to have re-ignited interest in a Norfolk Island holiday.
“But we’re also beginning to notice a spike from all the publicity that is running in Australia and New Zealand about the arrest of a person in relation to the death of Janelle Patton four years ago.”
