Norovirus cruise ship outbreak sickens 177

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a Norovirus outbreak sickened more than 150 cruise guests on a recent sailing of the Celebrity Summit.
It happened during a recent cruise which ended on May 25.
A total of 152 passengers and 25 crew were sick.
The virus spread rapidly with symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and headaches.
In its report, the CDC praised the actions of the ship’s crew in dealing with the outbreak and sick passengers.
There have been several major gastrointestinal outbreaks on cruise ships so far this year.
Norovirus is usually spread through contaminated food and water, or touching contaminated surfaces.
According to the CDC, Norovirus is a ‘very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea.’
There are millions of Norovirus cases reported annually in the US each year.

Such a shame as I’ve been on a number of Celebrity ships since Covid and they have taken extreme care to ensure guest safety.

Absolutely inexcusable. They should go back to only crew handling utensils at buffets! Passengers using their hands, and especially unsupervised kids which I observe all the time, make me ill as I watch them grabbing food, or putting food back after they have touched it. Food safety rules also must be strictly enforced
