Norwegian Cruise Line is saying goodbye to single-use plastic bottles on its fleet of ships.
It is partnering with JUST Goods Inc., which was founded by Jaden Smith, to replace plastic with JUST’s paper cartons of water.
This will save an estimated six million plastic bottles each year, the line says.
The water cartons comprise 82% renewable materials and the cap and shoulder are produced from sugarcane-based plastic.
The new Norwegian Encore will be first ship to be without single use plastic water bottles and then other ships across the fleet will follow by the beginning of 2020.
"The elimination of single-use plastic bottles across our fleet is just the latest environmentally responsible action we are taking to reduce our footprint," said Norwegian’s CEO, Andy Stuart.
"We had been exploring various options to eliminate plastic bottles from our ships and our partnership with JUST has allowed us to do this now."
Last year the cruise line began removing single-use plastic straws on its fleet of ships and private islands.
