After Carnival Corp’s Fathom cruise line finally gets the go-ahead to take all Americans to Cuba by sea, a Cuban-American cruise CEO is eyeing his own foray in to the market.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Frank Del Rio says the company is in discussions seeking approval for its Oceania Cruises brand to sail to Cuba before the end of the year.
"I am extremely pleased with the announcement that all Americans, regardless of their place of birth, will be able to travel to Cuba aboard cruise ships. Our Oceania Cruises brand continues discussions with Cuban officials seeking approval to commence cruises to Cuba later this year," Del Rio said.
"I am very much looking forward to sailing to Cuba soon aboard one of our ships in the company of many fellow Cuban Americans and other fellow Americans who wish to share in the excitement."
Del Rio added that other NCLH brands Norwegian Cruise Line and Regent Seven Seas Cruises could also head to Cuba ‘in the near future.’
Carnival Corp’s Fathom begins its inaugural Cuba cruise on May 1 and Carnival’s CEO hinted other Carnival brands would likely follow by the fall if permission is granted by Cuban authorities.
