Norwegian reveals details of restructure after securing Government rescue loan
Norwegian has created standalone commercial units to oversee airline operations as part of a restructure undertaken to secure a £245 million Government-backed loan.
The new structure, to be introduced from June 2, includes a new Customer department with responsibilities including product development, brand marketing and customer experience, and a People department overseeing all employees.
The Customer department will be led by Christoffer Sundby, who will join on September 1. Sundby, who has previously worked for Unicare, Circle K, Statoil Fuel & Retail, Statoil and McKinsey. In the meantime, the department will be headed by Kei Grieg Toyomasu, who is currently head of marketing and digital channels.
An Airline department led by Andrew Hodges, who is currently head of network strategy and planning, will oversee the route network, pricing, operations and sales and marketing.
An Ecosystem department will oversee aspects including partner agreements and the development of new customer platforms. A manager of the unit is yet to be announced, although it will be led in the interim by Brede Huser, head of Norwegian’s benefits programme.
A new manager is also yet to be announced for Norwegian’s operations department, but in the meantime it will be led by Tore Kristian Jenssen.
Chief financial officer Geir Karlsen continues in his position
Chief executive Jacob Schram said: "I have been committed to putting in place a management structure that takes us from growth to profitability by delivering our new Norwegian strategy and business plan. In order to run a profitable and sustainable company going forward, I will build the commercial part around two distinct entities with clear P&L responsibilities.
"We need to be able to attract, retain and develop good people, which is why the responsibility for all the company’s employees is placed in one department. Our employees and their contribution to New Norwegian is vital to achieving the company’s goals.
"We will be flexible, actionable, and cooperate well across the group. I am very pleased to have put in place the management team for the New Norwegian and Red Nose Warriors and look forward to working together to make Norwegian the customers’ first choice when we are through this current crisis."
