Norwegian to resume Cuba cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line said it has the go-ahead to resume cruises to Cuba and Norwegian Sky’s four-day sailing departing on Monday, September 18 will run as scheduled.

The line received confirmation Havana port facilities are unaffected and tour companies are ready to receive passengers again.

Norwegian Sky docks at Havana port on Tuesday.

Hurricane Irma killed 10 people in Cuba and severely impacted miles of the northern coastline.

It is thought about a quarter of its upscale beach resort hotels suffered damage.

Norwegian says it will resume normal operations elsewhere this weekend with Norwegian Sky first sailing to the Bahamas today and Norwegian Escape departing Saturday for the western Caribbean.

The line says it is still liaising with port authorities in the eastern Caribbean still reeling from Irma’s aftermath.

"As it’s still early, we will continue to keep in close contact with our partners on the ground and have the flexibility to alter future itineraries to ensure a great guest experience, if needed," the company said.

Norwegian already announced all eastern Caribbean itineraries would be replaced until November with western Caribbean sailings.
