Not in Kansas anymore?

Wednesday, 8 July 20093 min read

Where can you find the world’s largest ball of twine? Kansas. Historical monuments to President Eisenhower? Kansas. Dinosaur displays? Kansas. And the list goes on.

AAA recently again ranked Kansas as one of the top five least expensive states to visit. As part of its new ranking, Kansas is offering a series of nine “Ready Made Adventures (RMAs)” – themed itineraries that appeal to a variety of visitors.

One example is “Cowboys and Cattle Towns” where visitors can trace the frontier side of the state. The suggested stops include Wichita’s Old Cowtown Museum. The trail ends at Dodge City.

Tourism officials say the approximate cost for a family of four is $1000 to $1200 for four days and four nights.

What’s new in sometimes overlooked and perhaps unappreciated Kansas?

• The state’s first floatline fishing season begins July 15. Fishing enthusiasts will be able to participate in a pilot project this summer and fall, allowing floatline fishing at eight reservoirs in Kansas.

• The Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum announced a busy exhibits schedule this summer including holocaust and history themes.

• The spirited state has taken on a haunted look with a variety of new ghost and other-worldly attractions.
