NSW visitor economy breaks new record
New South Wales is celebrating another record-breaking year for its visitor economy.
Total visitor expenditure reached a new record high of $52.9 billion.
Tourism Research Australia (TRA) data for the year ending June 2024 shows the state also recorded the largest increase nationally for international visitors, nights and expenditure.
Both international visitor nights and expenditure have exceeded pre-pandemic levels, with spending up to a record $12.2 billion.
International visitor spending rose to $11.1 billion in Sydney and $1.2 billion in regional NSW, surpassing the same period in 2019.
There were 3.7 million international visitors to NSW in the year ending June 2024 (up 35.6%), who stayed 99.1 million nights (up 46%).
Sydney was the number one Australian capital city for visitors, visitor nights and expenditure.
It welcomed 37.5 million international and domestic visitors who spent $26.8 billion across the period.
Regional NSW welcomed 700,000 international visitors, who stayed 17.1 million nights.
Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham said: “NSW attracted record-breaking visitor expenditure throughout the last financial year and is leading Australia’s international visitor revival.”
