NSW’s Northern Rivers to be sold to international travellers
The ABC reports that Tourism New South Wales says it is time to sell the Northern Rivers region to international holiday-makers, with TNSW embarking on a long-term program to raise the profile of the region beyond Australian boundaries.
Tourism to Australia is forecast to grow and the organisation believes the north coast has what it takes to attract international visitors, says Jan Ross from Tourism NSW, adding that by capitalising on the area’s charms, existing markets can be expanded.
“Traditionally, this region has appealed to the UK market, the European market and to New Zealand and we’re saying that obviously those are going to continue and the more that we talk about the things that this region offers, particularly for an older traveller, not necessarily the backpacker of the past, they’re going to continue to come in large numbers.”
This proposed activity comes at a time when domestic and international tourism are struggling, there is substantial criticism of Tourism Australia’s international “Where The Bloody Hell Are You” campaign and concerns regarding duplication between State and Federal organasations in international marketing spend.
