NTSB urges Boeing 757 inspections over faulty doors

The National Transportation Safety Board is urging the Federal Aviation Administration to mandate inspections of latches on some Boeing airplane doors.
The safety agency is citing the report findings of a 2023 emergency evacuation of a FedEx cargo jet.
The NTSB wants the regulator to require airlines to inspect the door latches on Boeing 757 doors.
It also said some Boeing 727 and 737 planes also have the same latch design and these should be inspected too.
It says the latches ‘could lead to delayed evacuation during an emergency should the slide become jammed.’
The FAA said it will respond to the NTSB recommendations.
During the FedEx emergency evacuation – due to defective landing gear – the emergency slide was deployed.
However, the door was lodged on the slide pack preventing it from opening fully.
A crew member had to use extra force to open the door and properly deploy the slide.
The NTSB said FedEx inspected the doors on all its Boeing 757 planes after the incident.
It found 46 doors had the same malfunction.
Boeing issued a message to B757 operators about the issue last year.
It relates to aircraft typically at least 20+ years old.
