New York State plans to get more urbanites out of the city and on to the ski slopes with the launch of a city-to-ski bus service, slated to begin next winter.
The ‘I Ski NY Bus’ service will operate from downtown New York City to 13 ski areas in Central New York and the Hudson Valley.
An additional service will depart from Toronto to six ski resorts in Western New York.
The announcement of the service was made by Gov. Andrew Cuomo at the Adirondack Winter Challenge in Lake Placid, an event designed to increase awareness of snow sports and general tourism in the state.
The aim of the ski bus services is to make it easier and more affordable for city residents to participate in winter sports, and to boost the economies of local mountain communities, many of which rely heavily on tourism dollars.
Upstate New York has some of the best winter resorts in the world and more operating ski areas than any other state in the US, Gov. Cuomo said.
Hudson Valley ski areas include Belleayre, Catamount, Whiteface and Thunder Ridge, most of which do not have scheduled bus services from New York City.
