NZ voted second best country in the world

Friday, 06 Sep, 2006 0

New Zealand has been voted the second best country in the world by readers of an international travel magazine.

Thirty-thousand well-heeled travellers voted in Conde Nast’s annual awards – apparently one in three readers of Traveller magazine.

Perennial favourite Italy came up trumps this year, consigning New Zealand – last year’s winner – into second place.

Three of the country’s premier resorts, including Huka Lodge at Taupo, were rated among the top 20.

New Zealand tourism chief George Hickton says for a small country New Zealand consistently punches above its weight in these sorts of awards.

The added bonus this time is that New Zealand finished just ahead of Australia.
