Oahu further restricts short-term rentals

Honolulu City Council is cracking down on short-term rentals.
It passed a contentious bill today that changes the minimum stay to three months from 30 days for short-term rentals.
Transient vacation rentals will only bellowed in certain resort zone areas like Kuilima, Makaha and parts of Waikiki.
An exception is made for apartment-zoned areas which are close to resort areas.
Bill 41 also increases registration fees for legal vacation rentals.
It bans on-street parking in areas classifieds rural, residential or apartment-use.
The bill’s passage came after hours of testimony from Oahu residents both in favor and opposing short-term rentals.
The bill was proposed by Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, who is expected to sign it into law soon.
Opponents claim the bill unfairly favors big resort operators located within resort zones.
