Ocean Village boss takes on Princess UK responsibilities
Peter Shanks, the boss of Ocean Village, is to take on additional responsibilities as UK director of Princess Cruises.
He takes on the role at the US line in the UK following former post holder Carol Marlow’s recent promotion to president and managing director of Cunard Line.
All three cruise brands are part of the Carnival group.
Princess Cruises’ UK head of marketing Pieter van der Schee will now report to Shanks.
Carnival UK managing directoer David Dingle said: “I am pleased to appoint Peter to the additional role of UK director of Princess Cruises.
“Ocean Village is now operating very successfully and with a second ship joining the fleet in spring 2007 has created a leadership position in the fast growing mainstream cruise market. Princess Cruises’ operation in the UK will benefit from Peter’s experience and the brand is well placed for further growth.”
Shanks said: “Princess Cruises has a fabulous modern fleet and offers a distinctive style of upscale American cruising which is proving very popular both with new and experienced cruisers alike.
“I relish the challenge of further developing the awareness and growth of the Princess Cruises brand together with our important travel agent partners in the UK”
Shanks joined Carnival UK in 2002 as senior vice president Europe for Cunard prior to becoming managing director of Ocean Village in July 2004. Prior to joining Carnival UK, he was managing director Distribution for First Choice, managing director of Going Places Retail and commercial director for Thomas Cook.
