Official welcome to Accor in Fiji
Travel industry leaders have gathered in Fiji to officially welcome Accor to the family in 2006 following the addition of Accor Asia Pacific’s fourth hotel to its growing Fiji network.
Leading Fijian tourism operators, wholesaler companies, product managers and tour guides including Rosie Travel, ATS Pacific and South Pacific Holidays gathered at the Mocambo Hotel in Nadi, the most recent addition to the Accor chain, to celebrate with local Accor general managers Rhys Challenger and Murray Davidson.
Fiji’s newest and most deluxe five-star hotel and spa resort – the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa – was opened in December by the Prime Minister of fiji, Laisenia Qarase. The Sofitel is Accor’s fourth hotel in Fiji in less than twelve months. The group runs another Sofitel on Vomo Island, and in 2005 relaunched the Dominion Hotel as the Mercure Nadi after an extensive renovation. The group recently added the Mocambo Hotel in Nadi, which will be re-branded as a Novotel after a major upgrading programme.
Accor’s growing presence and interest in Fiji comes at a time when Fiji’s tourism sector is experiencing a period of sustained growth, particularly from the Australian, New Zealand and North American markets. Additional air capacity to Fiji is expected to further increase inbound tourism and conference business.
Air Pacific – who co-owns the Sofitel Fiji as part of a joint venture between owned the international airline and Colonial Fiji Life (Richmond Ltd) – is anticipating considerable growth in the market to Fiji, prompting the need for additional international-standard resort and hotel accommodation. An increase of more than 10% is anticipated for visitor numbers in 2006, with the bulk of the growth coming from the Australian, New Zealand and North American markets. The market from Asia is also developing strongly.
