One dead after bus from Houston crashes in Mexico
One passenger was confirmed dead and at least 15 others were injured after a bus flipped over on a Mexican highway.
The scheduled bus departed Houston for Monterey and was about one hour from its destination when the accident happened.
Raul Cervantes, spokesperson for operator Pegasso Tours, said it was carrying 39 passengers at the time and reports say some were thrown from the bus.
The cause of the bus crash is still being investigated by federal police in northern Mexico.
There didn’t appear to be any other vehicle involved, and reports suggested driver fatigue could be the likely cause.
In the last two years there were 11 cases of Pegasso drivers violating the 10 hours a day maximum rule or failed to record their driving hours properly, according to federal inspection data.
The company operates 26 buses.
"In 25 years in business, the company hasn’t had any accident of this magnitude and we are sorry," Cervantes said.
