One Gatwick Airport strike off, another set to go ahead
A planned Gatwick Airport strike has been shelved for now after a ‘greatly improved offer,’ but another is set to go ahead.
Union Unite said strike action by workers employed by Wilson James is postponed while they are balloted on an improved pay offer.
These workers are part of the airport’s passenger service team.
However, a second separate strike is still likely.
“The airport strike involving workers employed by ground handling company Red Handling, remains live,” the union said.
“A further offer was made but it is thought that it is not likely to meet member expectations.”
“Passengers planning to fly will be rightly angry how every other dispute has been resolved, but this one hasn’t.”
Red Handling workers provide ground handling for Norse Atlantic, Norwegian, Delta, TAP Air Portugal, and Saudi.
Unite claims the initial four-day strike could impact over 200 flights and 45,000 passengers.
It is set to begin at midnight on Friday.
