MSC Cruises is pushing back the opening of its Bahamas private island development Ocean Cay Marine Reserve by nearly a year.
A new opening date of October 2018 has been announced.
Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Cruises said the delay will ensure it receives the ‘attention to detail and level of quality’ it deserves.
Since announcing the development, the line will further ‘enrich this unique beach destination with new and additional unique services for our guests,’ Vago said.
The Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve was originally slated to open before the end of next year.
MSC Seaside and MSC Davina, which were scheduled to call at the island in 2017, will instead visit Nassau.
MSC has signed a 100-year lease agreement with the government for the 95-acre island which will feature six beaches, bars, restaurants, a 2,000-seat amphitheatre and private bungalows.
