Orlando’s high end hotels attracting conventions
With the addition of a new 1,260-unit Palazzo del Lago and other new hotels, Orlando is starting to attract the upscale rooms sought by some conventioneers.
“We have had major potential convention clients who didn’t think we have enough high-end rooms,” said William Peeper, president of the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
With a 1,400-unit Hilton Orlando Convention Center also under way, the city has about 3,400 new upscale rooms on their way to completion.
After the convention center completed its second million square foot wing two years ago, tourism officials said more hotel rooms within walking distance were needed.
The long-established convention favorite Peabody Orlando across the street from the convention center is also more than doubling its 750 rooms.
Upscale hotel rooms near the convention center will total 5,200 within the next couple of years, tourism officials said.
