OTA collapse leaves customers with invalid bookings
Bookable Holidays has gone into administration with 930 forward bookings.
The online travel agent, which traded as bookableholidays.com and bookableholidays.co.uk, had 130 forward bookings under its ATOL licence which allowed it to carry 5,315 passengers annually.
The rest were accommodation-only bookings or where Bookable was acting as an agent on behalf of other tour operators which will be dealt with by ABTA.
If customers currently on holiday find their hotel booking has been cancelled they should contact ABTA if it was an accommodation-only booking or the CAA if it included a flight.
All bookings with flight and accommodation, flight and car hire or flight plus any other service should be referred to the CAA.
A CAA spokesman said "We can confirm that Bookable Holidays, ATOL 9785 has ceased trading. Bookable has a small number of forward bookings covered by ATOL which the CAA will fulfill with an alternative operator. We are also in the process of establishing how many Bookable customers are currently abroad; all those with ATOL certificates will be able to complete their holidays and return home."
ABTA said: "If you booked your hotel, villa, apartment, studio through Bookable Holidays please check your paperwork. Your accommodation may be being provided by another supplier for whom Bookable Holidays were acting as an agent.
"In this instance, you will need to contact that company directly to see if they have received the booking. If no booking is in place then please refer to our website for advice.
"If you booked your hotel, villa, apartment, studio directly with Bookable Holidays, if is likely that your accommodation booking is no longer valid."
ABTA said it was too early to say how many customers had been left with invalid bookings, however a spokesman said it was ABTA’s belief that all Bookable’s customers will be covered by ABTA, ATOL or their credit or visa debit card.
However, it is not clear if any protection is in place for customers who booked accommodation-only directly with Bookable and paid by other means.
Bookable was run by managing director Jason Dwyer and fellow directors Paul Ashford and Timothy Reed.
Its collapse follows that of another OTA On Holiday Group in March this year. Gareth Roberts and Paul Ellison have been appointed joint administrators of Bookable.
