Outbreak sickens dozens on Alaska cruise
More than 180 people fell ill during a Royal Caribbean Alaska cruise.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed 180 guests and three crew members were taken ill during a gastrointestinal outbreak aboard Radiance of the Seas.
The ship concluded the voyage late last week, which was its final Alaska cruise of the season.
Reported symptoms were mostly cramps, diarrhea and headaches.
The agency hasn’t yet confirmed whether norovirus is the cause.
“To maintain an environment that supports the highest levels of health and safety, we implement rigorous cleaning procedures, many of which far exceed public health guidelines,” the cruise line said.
During the Alaska cruise it made announcements about the outbreak, recommending ‘good hand hygiene’ and reporting new cases to crew members.
It is the ship’s second recorded outbreak this year.
Almost 70 people were sick in April which was classed as a norovirus outbreak.
