The Margot Hotel, Outset Collection by Hilton, debuts in San Diego

A fresh boutique hotel experience has arrived in downtown San Diego with the opening of The Margot Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Launched on May 7, the property is one of the first in Outset Collection by Hilton, a new lifestyle brand focused on independent, character-driven hotels supported by Hilton’s global network.

Located steps from Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center, The Margot Hotel introduces a more personal approach to hospitality.

Rather than following a standard hotel model, it positions itself as a locally rooted stay that feels more like a well-connected neighborhood host. The concept reflects Outset Collection’s broader mission: highlighting distinctive hotels that reflect their surroundings instead of conforming to a uniform template.

The Margot Hotel is a strong addition to our growing portfolio,” said Elizabeth Scruggs, brand leader for Outset Collection by Hilton. She noted that the brand is designed for travelers who want a more thoughtful and locally grounded experience. “Located in San Diego’s Gaslamp neighborhood, The Margot delivers a strong sense of place that is authentic and story-led.”

Residential-style stay with local character

The hotel features 135 spacious, residential-style suites that blend apartment-like comfort with a downtown urban setting. Each suite includes fully equipped kitchens, open layouts, and modern California-inspired design elements. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in natural light and offer views of the city skyline, reinforcing the property’s airy, relaxed feel.

From arrival, the experience is designed to feel personal rather than scripted. The hotel’s identity is guided by its namesake persona, “Margot,” who shapes service style and guest recommendations. The goal is to create a stay that feels intuitive and locally informed rather than standardized.

Guests have access to modern conveniences including valet parking and a 24-hour front desk. The hotel also partners with local providers such as Cloud 9 food service, which delivers neighborhood favorites directly to rooms. An upcoming lobby bar will add another social focal point, serving a curated selection of Margot-inspired drinks and creating a casual gathering space from day to night.

Amenities extend beyond the rooms, with an eighth-floor terrace offering fire pits, outdoor dining, and lounge seating. Additional features include a 24-hour fitness center, pet-friendly accommodations, and sustainability-focused practices such as reusable water bottles and reduced single-use plastics.

Part of Hilton’s Expanding Lifestyle Portfolio

As part of Outset Collection by Hilton, The Margot Hotel joins a growing portfolio of independent-style properties designed for travelers seeking more immersive, design-forward stays. The brand emphasizes “story-rich” hotels while giving guests access to Hilton’s global benefits, including the Hilton Honors loyalty platform.

Outset Collection currently includes more than 60 hotels in development across the United States, ranging from urban boutique properties to leisure-focused destinations. The brand is positioned as part of Hilton’s broader push into lifestyle hospitality, combining individuality with system-wide support.

The Margot Hotel is managed by Ensemble, which oversees operations while preserving the property’s independent identity. Company leadership emphasized that balance as central to the project’s success.

The Margot is exactly the kind of hotel Outset Collection was created for—one with a strong point of view, a sense of place, and a story worth telling,” said Kristi Allen, executive vice president of hotels at Ensemble. “We’re proud to support its success while letting its individuality lead.
