The former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown has made an impassioned plea to tourists – to try out Bosnia-Hercegovina as a holiday destination.
The BBC News website quotes the politician and international high representative for the country as saying that the common perception of a “war-torn” country are out of date – and that the Balkan state has much to offer.
Mr Ashdown, in London to launch a campaign to attract more tourists, is quoted as saying: “There is a lot more to do but if you want to see a remarkable country on its way to joining Europe, then this is an adventure you should not miss.
“People’s vision of Bosnia is the terrible fighting of 1992. That is wrong. Bosnia is now a stable country with the lowest inflation in the Balkans; a stable currency.”
The BBC reports that Ashdown’s visit to London, along with the Bosnian foreign minister, was part of a European tour to promote tourism in the state.
