With just days to go until Christmas 2014, it’s not too late to start spreading some holiday cheer, which is exactly what Air New Zealand set out to do when Santa and his elves took to the sky recently. On 11 Air New Zealand flights across the country, the onboard entertainment took a festive turn with carolling, fun and presents for all. Passengers walked away with international and regional flights as well as books, gadgets and toys for the youngsters. Check out the official hashtag #AirNZSantaElves for all the fun. Closer to home London Heathrow and London City have both set up Christmas experiences for festive flyers which aim to connect people via social media this holiday season.

People turn to Google for any question they may have, no matter how life-changing or mundane it might be. So to celebrate the end of 2014, Google, the all-seeing, all knowing power, has revealed its year in search. In London, Glasgow and Leeds, the most searched term this year was ‘how to kiss’, while in Mancunians are enthralled by learning to crochet, and Bristolians want to know how best to squat. ALS, the charity responsible for the Ice Bucket challenge which took social media by storm, ranked number two in all news stories on Google and the most searched person of the year was Banksy after he announced a new work but with no clues of what or where it was.

2014 has been the year of ‘passenger shaming‘ on social media. With a series of reported in-air fights about reclining seats and other ‘uncivilised’ behaviour, fellow passengers have taken to Facebook and Instagram to ‘out’ the offenders on feeds created by a former flight attendant. Ultimately, please make sure you wear appropriate clothing, don’t hog the limited space – or invade someone else’s with your naked feet! – and don’t leave unruly kids unattended.
