Passports of Nardi and wife retained by police
ABTA’S former head of legal affairs Riccardo Nardi yesterday (Tues) appeared before magistrates accused of swindling the organisation out of at least ?120,000.
Nardi and wife Samantha, both 37 and from Pulloxhill, Bedford, faced an unspecified number of charges relating to fraud allegations while he was barrister and ABTA’s fraud buster.
They said nothing during the 10-minute hearing and were bailed to appear before Horseferry Road Magistrates in London on June 29.
Outlining the case, which will undergo detailed review in the next three weeks, prosecutor Nicholas Mesure said Nardi is accused of setting up a bogus travel company, Sunbeam Europe, and making a claim of ?120,470 to Newman Street following the collapse of travel agent Crouch End Travel.
Although no charges were officially read to the court, Nardi was last week been charged with 21 counts of deception with his wife facing seven counts. Both were granted bail on condition they do not apply for international travel documents. Mr Nardi has already has his passport retained by police with his wife ordered to give her passport up within 24 hours.
In a separate move, Nardi is being sued in the High Court for ?960,000 by ABTA who accuse him of fraud, misrepresentation and or breach of fiduciary duty and or breach knowing breach of trust.
