Pet fearful-fliers should not be up in the air about the subject after a new report saying their animals are safer than previously thought.
No one really knows how many animals fly but American and Continental alone account for 200,000 animals a year.
Of these, groups such as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have published figures showing the loss of 5,000 flying animals a year.
In fact, there were only 56 incidents last year of pets suffering any injury, far less than previous estimates, according to a study by The Dallas News. Of those, only 28 animals died while 22 were injured and six were lost.
Most of the incidents involved dogs but there were also 14 cats, two birds and one rat.
