Philippine Airlines will restart flights to New York from March 15 next year.
It is the first major schedule change since former owner Lucio C. Tan took control again of the airline for $1.3 billion from San Miguel Corp.
CEO Tan said it will be just the first move in its planned network expansion to the US east coast, after the US Federal Aviation Administration upgraded the Philippines’ airline safety rating in April.
"This auspicious start of regular flights to New York will coincide with PAL’s 74th founding anniversary," Tan said.
PAL will fly Manila-Vancouver-New York four times a week and will have full traffic rights between Vancouver and New York.
This will become PAL’s fifth US destination after Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu and Guam.
The New York flight at over 16 hours, will become the airline’s longest route.
