Phuket seeks government aid to launch tourist tracking app
Phuket is seeking funding from the central government to develop a tourist tracking app for a Covid-19 surveillance system. It is also seeking technical support from the government to have the tracking app up and running by the time Phuket opens to vaccinated travellers in just a few weeks.
The app would be linked to several state agency databases such as immigration and public health. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects about 129,000 foreign tourists will visit Phuket in the next three months from July when it officially starts welcoming vaccinated travellers.
Under the sandbox rules, visitors must stay in Phuket for at least 14 days before being able to explore around the country.
