A Phuket tour bus driver has been suspended and his employer fined following a crash which killed one.
Transport officials said Racharot Tour Company was hit with a THB50,000 fine after operating with ‘red plates’.
Red license plates are issued to identify unregistered vehicles which may need to be moved from one location to another by public roads.
However they cannot be used for commercial purposes.
The bus was carrying a group of South Korean tourists when it struck a 47-yrear old motorcyclist who was killed.
"The bus had been recorded with the Transport Department in July 2016 to be used for land transportation, but the bus had yet to be registered and issued license plates," Prapai Suankul, of the Phuket Land Transport Office said.
"It is illegal to operate a non-registered vehicle so the bus operator was charged with the maximum fine of THB50,000 for operating non-registered vehicle and not paying road tax."
Driver Tanu Longsamud, 38, had his license suspended for three months and could face a charge of reckless driving causing death.
