Pilots and engineer suspended over dented aircraft

A probe into why an Air India aircraft was allowed to fly with a dent in its fuselage has been opened by India’s directorate general of civil aviation.

Three staff members have been temporarily suspended from duty while the investigation takes place, the DCGA said.

The A319 jet was seemingly allowed to continue flying even after the damage was discovered during an inspection.

Sources said two pilots and an engineer were de-rostered and the DCGA’s Air Safety Department is expected to soon conclude the investigation.

The incident dates back to October when the aircraft was flying from Patna to Delhi.

The airline’s maintenance division, Air India Engineering Services, confirmed the probe and is ‘awaiting the investigation report.’
