Plush furniture from iconic London hotel goes under the hammer
Posh London hotel The Lanesborough is to flog its furniture at auction next month.
More than 3,000 items will go on sale between December 9 and 13 ahead of the hotel’s extensive renovation project.
The Lanesborough, which is one of London’s best-known Regency landmarks, will close on December 20 for the refurb.
Pro Auction will conduct the auction when original and reproduction period furnishings and authentic artwork reflecting the Regency period will go under the hammer.
The auction will be held at the hotel’s premises and webcast live over the internet to allow people who can’t attend to bid.
Viewing is available to the public by appointment on Saturday and Sunday December 7 and 8 and prior to the sale commencing each day at 10.30am.
In addition to the contents of the 93 guest rooms, including 43 suites, the auction will sell items from the private dining rooms, The Library Bar and Apsleys Restaurant.
The hotel’s refurbishment will include new designs by Alberto Pinto.
The Lanesborough managing director Geoffrey Gelardi said: "This marks an unprecedented renovation project for the hotel which brings with it the opportunity to purchase a piece of the hotel’s history at auction as we pave the way for a new chapter for The Lanesborough."
Mark Flynn of Pro Auction added: "This really is going to be an exceptional event presenting a rare opportunity to acquire quality furnishings from one of the world’s leading hotels in the lead up to refurbishment.
"It is possible for bidders to buy the entire contents of the bedrooms with a range of options to attract a variety of buyers and scales of purchase."
