P&O Cruises’ passenger killed in tour bus crash
A passenger on a P&O Cruises’ voyage from the UK died and several others were injured when their tour bus was involved in a collision on the Caribbean island of Dominica.
In total, 12 passengers, including 10 guests from the Azura, were on a shore excursion yesterday lunchtime when the crash happened.
Ten passengers were injured, one fatally. A P&O spokeswoman said: "P&O Cruises regrets to confirm that a bus operated by a shore excursion provider was involved in a collision in Dominica on Wednesday lunchtime.
"One passenger has sadly died of their injuries. Another nine passengers were injured and treated at a local hospital, with the majority now discharged."
The names of the guests involved in the incident have not been released and the cause of the accicdent isn’t known.
P&O Cruises representatives are on-site at the hospital to support the injured and the cruise line has activated its care team to help those affected by the accident, it said.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone touched by this tragic event. Our employees and crew are working to do everything we can to extend support and assistance to those affected and their loved ones," said P&O Cruises senior vice president Paul Ludlow.
P&O added that it only works with pre-approved excursion providers that meet its ‘exacting’ standards of health and safety.
Azura is on a 14 night cruise, which left Southampton on October 28 with 3,082 passengers onboard.
