P&O Cruises ties up alongside children’s charity
SYDNEY – Children’s charity Make-A-Wish Australia has signed a major new sponsor, P&O Cruises, to support its efforts to help children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Make-A-Wish CEO Sandy Brattstrom said the charity was thrilled to welcome P&O Cruises as a gold sponsor, particularly given the challenging economic environment.
Under the partnership, P&O Cruises will fund Make-A-Wish gift baskets for young children and provide cruises for the charity’s fundraising drives. Make-A-Wish will also hold several fundraising ventures on P&O Cruises’ ships every year.
Established in 1985, Make-A-Wish Australia is part of the world’s largest wish granting organisation and has granted more than 5600 wishes to Australian children.
“Last year alone we had the privilege of granting 433 wishes to children,” Ms Brattstrom said. “The support of our sponsors, volunteers and staff is crucial to ensuring we can continue to bring some hope and joy to children in need.”
Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, said the partnership would be a key component of the company’s new charity program, Carnival Cares, which will see Carnival Australia and its staff support three charities – Make-A-Wish, The Catherine Freeman Foundation and Mission Australia – with a range of activities from fundraising to volunteer work.
