Port Canaveral to add $80 million cruise terminal

Friday, 08 Nov, 2013 0

Port Canaveral took two big steps forward this week, opening of a new Exploration Tower and approving an $80 million cruise terminal complex capable of handling 6,000-passenger vessels.

The $23 million, 22,000-square-foot Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral opened on Monday, with an observation deck, exhibits, auditorium, gift shop, café and event space.

Then yesterday the Port Canaveral Commissioners approved the construction of the new 185,000-square-foot cruise terminal complex.

Work is expected to begin in January, and the facility is scheduled to open in November 2014.

Port Canaveral has handled 4 million cruise passengers already this year, and port officials say there’s enough demand to double that over the next 10 to 15 years.Canaveral
