Portugal airfares spike ahead of green list announcement
The British public is pretty confident Portugal will make the cut on the ‘green list’ for safe travel destinations. Booking volumes have soared, leading to airfares more than doubling, for travel on or after 17 May.
British Airways flights to the Algarve have more than doubled, while airfares with easyJet have tripled. Returning travellers from a green destination can avoid self-isolating or quarantine.
There is speculation Portugal will be designated as a low risk green country, along with Malta, Gibraltar and Israel when an announcement is made later on Friday.
