Portugal and Greece Dominate Europe’s Best Beaches Ranking for 2026

As summer is fast approaching, it is time to look at Europe’s top beaches for 2026. They have been recently unveiled, with Portugal taking the overall crown while Greece secured an impressive five places in the top ten.

The annual ranking by European Best Destinations assessed beaches across the continent using a broad range of criteria, including water quality, natural beauty, accessibility, sustainability, family appeal, and recreational opportunities. From a pre-selection of 30 beaches, European Best Destinations finally provided the list of its most coveted top 10…

Claiming the number one position is Praia de Monte Clérigo in Portugal’s Algarve region. Located within the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo, the beach is known for its wide sandy shoreline, dramatic coastal scenery, and strong appeal to surfers, hikers, and nature lovers. The beach is also renowned for its spectacular sunset views, earning it the nickname “The Sunset Beach.”

While Portugal secured the top spot, Greece emerged as the standout destination overall, accounting for half of the beaches featured in the top ten. The country’s strong showing highlights its enduring appeal among international travelers seeking crystal-clear waters, scenic landscapes, and diverse coastal experiences.

Second place went to Voutoumi Beach, celebrated for its turquoise waters and pristine surroundings. Third place was awarded to Fteri Beach, a secluded stretch of coastline that has also earned recognition from other international beach rankings.

Completing Greece’s top-performing entries were Elafonisi Beach in fourth place, Rovinia Beach in eighth, and Paleokastritsa Beach in tenth.

Other destinations making the list include Italy, Spain, Norway, and Turkey, reflecting the diversity of Europe’s coastal offerings.
