British Airway’s traffic fell last month but its premium traffic showed an encouraging upturn.
In July 2010, traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres, fell by 2.6% compared to the previous year.
However, while there was a 3.2% decrease in economy traffic, premium traffic was up 0.8%
Total passengers carried were just under 3.2 million, 0.4% down on the same period last year. But UK and Europe passenger numbers were up 0.9%.
BA is predicting improved yields: “For the summer overall volumes are likely to be slightly lower than the peak levels seen last year with a lower proportion of transfer traffic and strong yield performance in both premium and non-premium.
“In the winter yield growth is likely to slow due to capacity increases and the stronger base.”
